A Small Outdoor Pool

2019 Outdoor Living Trends

As designer Scott Shrader says, “Why go on vacation once a year when you can make your yard feel like you’re on vacation all year round?” Gardeners are finding more ways to enjoy a staycation in the comfort of their own backyard rather than waiting in airport lines and living out of a suitcase.

Here’s some inspiration:

  • Keep it low maintenance.
  • Set up a weatherproof speaker system to enjoy music while you’re outside.
  • Site destination spaces—for example, a fire feature or a comfy lounge chair—in a spot that will draw people outside but not so far that you forget about it.
  • Invest in outdoor furniture that you actually want to sit in.
  • Include lighting to make your outdoor spaces easy to access when it gets dark out.
  • Install an outdoor kitchen if you love to cook.

Vacation or Staycation

What’s Better: A Vacation or Staycation

Many families look forward to that week in the summer when the whole family goes on vacation. You see a story on the Travel Channel of some destination and try to convince everyone in the family that’s the place to go. Maybe it’s to Disney, the Grand Canyon, NYC or perhaps a cruise. In the pre 9/11 world all of those destinations were pretty easy to get to.  Today it’s a whole different story as it is a whole different world.  You may have experienced getting a family of four through airport security. Taking of the kids, shoes, pulling out computers, coats and jackets in a separate bin and then putting everything and everyone back together – It isn’t easy, is it?

Transforming your backyard into your families’ Staycation Destination isn’t simple either, but with a Leisure Pool, you could be swimming in as little as a week.  So consider for a moment these points:

So over the years, I’ve read many publications from various pool builders.  Each has its own spin or take on what direction the writer is trying to take the reader.  For the most general parts, most books and guides will jump over many very important aspects of the process and fast forward, missing some of the most critical items that need to be addressed.

I believe that before any smart consumer can even think about moving forward with a project on this scale, much research must be done.  This guide is intended to help the consumer focus on the critical steps prior to selection of the pool builder.  So you say, how do you know who to trust and who will deliver you everything you wanted for what you agreed to pay?  Who has the product I am looking for?  Who will be respectful of my property?

When we talk about the most effective way to reduce a pool’s energy consumption, the focus typically turns to the pump, because it consumes more energy than any other piece of pool equipment, outside of a heater or heat pump. Did you know that a variable speed pump, more communally known as a VSP can reduce the energy costs of running a swimming pool by up to 90%

Historically, pool pumps are equipped with induction motors that run at only one speed and use more energy than is required to circulate pool water. That is because a pump that can run at only one speed must be powerful enough to do the pump’s most demanding job (e.g., running a waterfall or pool cleaner). However, it takes far less power to simply keep water filtered—a difference single-speed pumps cannot address. Also, in the early stages of development, VSP pumps were 240 Volt only and that sometimes became an issue for a replacement of an existing pump that did not have that higher voltage available at the equipment pad. Today, 120 Volt VSP pumps that can develop 1.5 HP are available for new installations or retrofit older single speed models.

Importance of a long lasting pool finish

One of the biggest concerns for the life of your swimming pool is of course what you are going to stare at every day….the gel coat interior finish!

One of the big tests Leisure Pools had to pass to receive International Code Council (ICC) approval was the exposure to ultra UV done via a Carbon Arc Test.  Basically, pool samples and gel coat are exposed to welding electric arc flash in a chamber for 1500 hours continuously (62 days). When completed the gel coat surface must not show excessive UV effects.  It equates to around 30 years UV exposure and the fact that our pools passed speaks volumes about the quality and integrity of Leisure Pools.

Northeast Winter

Does the frost in northeast winters damage a fiberglass pool?

This is another misconception and misleading bit of information floated out there by the vinyl pool people as another way of attempting to discredit the fiberglass pool industry.  I am going to supply you with some facts and truth that will dispel any of this. First, let us examine fiberglass pools strength and ductility.  Fiberglass is actually about 17 times stronger than concrete, yet has the unique ability to move and bend without breaking or damaging the gelcoat interior surface.  You can actually move a fiberglass pool wall panel in and out 3-5 inches in either direction with no negative affect whatsoever on the product.

Pool Installation

Do fiberglass pools pop out of the ground?

When discussing fiberglass swimming pools with perspective customers one of the most common misconceptions is that they pop out of the ground. Mostly, this fear mongering statement comes from the vinyl pool industry. It really is sad that the facts can be so distorted and so inaccurate. The truth is simply this:

Anything subject to water pressure, more commonly know as water table, can be moved upward if proper engineering and drainage systems are not created on the installation. If a swimming pool, septic tank, house foundation or anything else contained in the ground does not have some drainage system to relieve the ground water pressures, it can be subject to damage. While in most all cases, when a swimming pool is filled with water, it is not nearly as susceptible to damage. There are very rare cases where a pool will pop, gunite, vinyl and fiberglass are all subject to the same damage to ground water that was not correctly eliminated or controlled.

Looking for a new pool?

In search of a Fiberglass pool?

In search of a Fiberglass pool? Then you have come to the right place.

Fiberglass pools require the least amount of maintenance of any swimming pool on the market today.  With their smooth, non-porous surfaces, it’s hard for algae to grow on fiberglass and when used with a salt chlorinator, the minimal maintenance is astounding for many pool owners.
